Reddit user krtomasko allowed me to share this image of their uncle’s index finger after the fingertip pad was severed and reattached. I am still waiting to hear back from krtomasko on whether the pad was intentionally reattached in a different orientation or if it was attached that way by mistake. After looking into this more, it is sometimes done intentionally but more likely it was an accident. When helicopters fly through sandstorms or dusty conditions, tiny grains of sand strike the rotor blades at high speed, creating a halo of sparks known as the Kopp–Etchells effect.
