Held, passed around in whisper networks, and relayed over conversations, these stories come to symbolize a part of Palestine’s intangible heritage. Thrilling and unsettling in equal parts, Hidden Companions traces a captivating world largely unseen in popular narrative. AHMAD NABIL is a visual artist and researcher in the fields of Arab and Islamic mythology and paranormal phenomena. He focuses on their relationship to land, natural resources, and their integration into intangible heritage for the preservation of land and collective memory. In 2015, he founded The Fiction Council in Jerusalem. ROLLA SELBAK is a Sundance alumna, and a writer/director of film and TV, with TV projects most recently in development at 20th Century Fox and Sony. She imprints her fresh point of view as a Palestinian American, having moved to the U.S after the first Gulf War, and often focuses on socially topical issues that unite audiences. RANDA JARRAR is an award winning author of three books and a performer and professor of writing. Amer Zahr hosts. They’re joined by Chris Smalls, who was detained aboard the Gaza Freedom Flotilla; Nidal Rafeedie, VP of Teamsters Local 1932, who pushed his 14,000-member local to publicly call for ceasefire and a halt to U.S. military aid; Rolla Selbak, a Palestinian filmmaker dropped by her agency for speaking on Palestine; Miriam Arghandiwal, who organizes Hollywood workers for Palestine; and Fatin Judeh of Unmute Humanity. Medicine poet Dr. Jaiya John opens the program and Rev. Joel Yoshonis of Christians for a Free Palestine delivers the invocation. What started as a silly Instagram trend has turned into my most cherished recap of Coopers first year, and our first year as parents. No matter if we were in the trenches, fighting or having the time of our lives, every month on the 22nd we shared a cupcake and celebrated making it another month.
