TO OUR ENGLAND

I choose the infomation I absorb carefully. And I choose my words even more carefully. Right now it breaks my heart to see where we’re at a Nation.

Years of failure by our leaders, have left a feeling of unheard emotion, unfairness and fear. There can be no shock that good people have become increasingly frustrated and furious by the situation.

I’ve talked about “weaponised” information long before anyone wanted to talk about patriotism, or some journo made it catchy. The biggest enemies we face are inside our own systems. I make an effort to guard against it, on all fronts

I’m just a man who loves his county, would die for it and truly believe that on our day we’re unstoppable. I come from a very violent life. It’s taught me lessons.

First and foremost anger, however justified! directed at our own never gets victories. It does the opposite, it’s plays into the hands of our enemies when our thought process is emotionally driven. It makes us all easy to be victim of stereotype and narrative. We got to be smarter.

My support for the emergency services, health workers and Amed Forces is absolute,that said In all aspects of human behaviour, there will be bad individuals. But on balance they working long hours, for low money, away from their families, with no thanks. For you and me and all the civilians. I thank them for it.

I don’t know the answer but I know this. Setting fire to a bin, throwing a rock at police or attacking a Sikh man in the street is not the way forward. That’s not what British values are about, it’s not the character that I expect from a Nation i love.

I get it, promise I get it. But for long lasting change to happen, then the ask is surely for people to change their ways. Which goes both ways, if we allow the conversion to driven by petrol bombs and bricks and rage. The good points that need to land will always be whitewashed by those who oppose common sense.

We’re not bullies, we’re not monsters, we’re British and we’re proud, but we’re upset. Right now I think it’s more important than ever to demonstrate our class and dignity.

Britain is kind, but it’s not soft. Never has been.

Be an everyday patriot.

BRITISH AIRWAYS When it get noisy and things become loud, One must focus. Trust yourself, trust your training and trust your system. Thats the process. Find calm in chaos.Emotion is a friend but fear is a foe. Make the unnatural normal, find comfort in that which is uncomfortable. Train until the uncertainty becomes familiar. EARLY YEARS When young Marines aspiring or trained, reach out, it never fails to humble me. However, I’m flattered and embarrassed when I’m asked for advice. If it’s tactical, then I’m comfortable. If it’s a training requirement it’s a hard yes and always free, It’s a privilege and an honour. But when it comes to mentality it can get more complicated. It’s personal. All you need to become a Commando is a pull up bar and a pair of running trainers. Don’t be fooled into spending money on 1 to 1 “coaching programmes” you can’t cheat the process. Earn your own resilience, it can’t be brought and it can’t be given. You have to earn it, just like you earn your beret! Nobody is going to be there at 3am on Dartmoor on a cold February morning when you’re putting wet kit on. Self motivation and obsession. That’s it. Thats the entry fee!My advice to any young Commando would be always focus on being a good Marine, make it your obsession, but don’t be sacred to be a Bootneck! War has changed, however some skills are timeless. Culture matters, Hard skills matter, be good in the field, all over weapon handling, navigationally competent, fit and don’t be a monk! And don’t wish your time in the Corp away too early. Learn as much as you can and enjoy it. Try not to compare careers to anyone else. It won’t serve you well. Don’t underestimate the strength of bonding with your Oppo’s. It’s important. Soldiers are not “tactical athletes” we are warfighters and the bonds built ashore carry through to combat. The odd skirmish never hurt anyone. Where I finished was not where I started. I left home at 15, by 22 I’d survived two tours of Sangin and by 25, I was a father and I’d passed selection. Hard work, mistakes and self belief, underpinned any progression I ever managed. The Marines gave me everything. It saved my life and gave me a future. My Green Beret is my proudest Military achievement. If I could trade all I’ve done, to step off the train at CTC with a shaved head and badly fitting suit, I’d do it in a heartbeat. We worked hard, played hard, won often and lost alot. That’s the life. Thats the process. And I loved every second of it. That was our Generation.

TRAINING DAYS Over the years I’ve been blessed to have traveled all over the planet to train my various skillets. As student, I’ve soldiered in the jungles of Brunei. I’ve parachuted over glaciers in Switzerland, controlled AC-130s in the cold deserts of New Mexico and conducted counter surveillance in European city’s, to name but a few. As an instructor, my craft has taken me all over the Globe. From Australia to conduct EMOE, to Utah JTACing, all the way the Middle East and Memphis for range work. As a civilian, teaching is a privilege, It’s an honour! And nothing excites me more than Shooting. It’s the one thing that really charges my soul. The human connection and process of progression is uniquely rewarding. I’m deeply proud to be able to deliver training that may help save a life, I’m also acutely aware of the responsibility it carries. I take my job very seriously. I’m passionate about what I do. I’ve seen first hand the consequences of being under prepared and under trained. As anyone that’s ever been in a two-way gunfight will testify, shooting isn’t a sport, it’s not a hobby. There are no points, timers or rehearsals. No re-runs or second chances. Mistakes are cruel and unforgiving. It’s all fun and games till your face down in the mud bleeding to death. It’s this hard fought and somewhat unwanted, real world experience that I use to anchor my methodology. Im deeply humbled and excited to move into this next block of training. I’ll do everything in my power to honour the trust placed in me by every single individual attending. It’s a serious business, but we can still conduct it with a smile on our faces. We’re back in Business boys!

TRAINING OBJECTIVES Outside of conducting combat operations, there’s only ever been one thing that I’ve invested as much time and effort into. Training for combat operations! I love to teach. Anyone who knows me will testify to this. When you train a group of professionals, you can expect certain things. A common goal, a defined mission set and a general baseline standard. Every Team has their own training objective. For high end guys, the requirement may simply be to fine tune, or provide variation. For others the ask may be more complex. When it comes to tactics I only teach LEO/MIL units. It’s a non-negotiable. However when it comes to shooting I have a level of flexibility. Shooting is a life saving skill. But it’s also develops confidence and capability. The application can be offensive and defensive. But in the hands of the right people, it only serves to add value to our communities. I adore the variation that comes with the individuals that come to me for training. It excites me, challenges me and keeps me honest. It’s also humbling. There’s a lot of talent out there! I’ve been blessed to have had the privilege of instructing T1 operators all the way through to guys that have never picked up a firearm in their life. Thousands of individuals, millions of rounds and countless range days have taught me one thing. There’s a common thread, a glue that binds us all together. The application of fundamental skills. You’re experience, unit, amount of tours, Gucci kit, matter not. The reality is, it’s all underwritten by one simple fact. Can you apply the basics? I feel so happy and content, that recently, I’ve been able to spend my time on the range with good people, doing good things for good reasons. I’m blessed and I’m grateful. Train hard, train safe.

COMMON GROUNDThe beautiful thing about open enrolment is the human element. The diversity of the individuals within the groups I train, never ceases to amaze me. It’s also humbling. Every shooter comes with their own training objectives and motivations. From an instructor perspective, it can be challenging but equally rewarding. Across the firing line the “why” varies. We’ve had guys looking for confidence and personal development, competition guys looking to work the fine margins, Instructors looking to find new ways to transfer knowledge, veterans seeking currency, police officers looking to enhance capability all the way to serving members of the British and Swedish Armed Forces wanting extra training for Operational deployments. It’s also impressive to see the interoperability between the 10+ Brits that travelled and our Swedish brothers. Working in an ego free environment, for a common goal always delivers results. All ages, backgrounds and experiences, under one roof for, one reason. To improve. The importance of solid fundamentals is a universal. It’s a glue that binds us all together. No frills, no secret sauce, just good honest application of the basics. If we can do that in any situation we can become consistent. My reflections on our recent training block have left we with strong sense of pride, I just want to say a massive thank you to all those who’ve participated in our various courses recently. Thank you for your time away from your families over the weekends, your attitude and application. And from a selfish perspective, for reminding me of my purpose. I’d like to thank all the staff @fmjse for their hard work, keeping the guns running, the ammo flowing and the fridges stocked. It’s deeply appreciated by all.
