An open source project called Skylight, built by the developer cpaczek on GitHub, uses a cheap RTL-SDR radio to pick up the ADS-B position signals that aircraft broadcast, then renders each plane onto a projector pointed straight up, so a jet you would hear overhead glides across the room at the same moment, labeled with its airline, type, and destination.

Behind the planes it also draws the sun, moon, bright stars and constellations, and live satellites including the International Space Station, all placed at their true positions for your location and time, with everything tunable from a phone.

The reference build is calibrated for San Francisco International but works anywhere once you set your coordinates.

It runs on a Raspberry Pi with a basic projector costing around $150, putting live aircraft tracking and real time astronomy into a setup any hobbyist can build at home.

Opening doors in real life is a one-man job. There is no reason it should become a two-man problem just because we’re doing CQB.

Speed comes from efficiency. When speed is a requirement, efficiency must be applied to everything. Unnecessary movement, unnecessary people, and unnecessary steps all cost time.

There are a hundred ways to solve this problem. I’m not interested in arguing all of them. What I teach is what has worked for me over the last twenty years. There is a gun-handling component and a positioning component. Everything else comes back to hard skills.

When engaging immediate threats or deep threats, there are rules that cannot be broken. You do not stop in the fatal funnel to take shots. You do not allow your muzzle to break the threshold before the work is done. The shots must be complete before the gun enters the room.

Can you process what you’re seeing, identify the threat, make a decision, and deliver accurate rounds before your muzzle crosses the doorway while continuing to move? Have you actually trained it on the range and then validated it inside structures? If you have, you already know how difficult it is to do without violating the principles. Once again, we’re back to hard skills.

This gets argued to death on the internet. I can only tell you what I believe and what I still follow today. I will never stop in the fatal funnel to take a shot. The shots I take will be complete before my muzzle breaks the threshold. That’s the standard. My training is built around making that possible.
