Back where it all started. Jack stopped by open mic night at Roy (@roysbca) in Santa Barbara last night to play a couple songs. Thanks Roy for supporting local musicians for all these years.

To make a veeeery long (19 year old) story short…. People keep asking me “what happened” and I could share with you all what happened exactly but 1) it’s complicated and 2) it’s fairly personal and 3) the details are kind of irrelevant. The exact reasons for the initial relationship breakdown caused damage, yes, but they were not (in my eyes) the cause of the separation. The cause was what came next. Poor communication. Defensiveness. Avoidance. Disrespect. Contempt. Lack of repair. Lack of understanding. Inability to come together and to grow together. The past two years have been the most agonisingly painful years of my life.. as I scrambled to keep something together while it was disintegrating in front of my eyes. I felt like I couldn’t breathe, couldn’t think, couldn’t function in any normal way. Almost 3 months out and starting to feel okay again, in a way I had forgotten was possible. I am feeling confident that I’m on the right path.. and I hope Ro and I can continue to work on ourselves and work together as a team to be the best parents for our children that we both cherish. ❤️❤️❤️

A South Carolina jury has found former convenience store owner Rick Chow not guilty of murder in the 2023 shooting death of 14-year-old Cyrus Carmack-Belton. —— The case made national news after prosecutors claim Chow chased Cyrus more than 130 yards from his store before shooting the teen in the back. Authorities said the confrontation began after Cyrus was accused of stealing four bottles of water, but surveillance footage later showed the teen had picked up the bottles and put them back before leaving the store. —— During trial, prosecutors argued Cyrus was running away when he was shot and that multiple witnesses testified they never saw him point a gun at anyone. Investigators also told jurors there was no evidence Cyrus threatened Rick Chow or his son before the fatal shot was fired. —— The defense argued the shooting was justified, claiming Cyrus pointed a firearm at Chow’s son during the chase, causing Chow to fear for his son’s life. However, prosecutors pointed out that witnesses who supported that version of events were members of the Chow family, while several other witnesses said they never saw a gun in Cyrus’ hands. —— Jurors ultimately sided with the defense and returned a not guilty verdict Monday. Emotional scenes reportedly unfolded inside the courtroom as Cyrus’ family broke down in tears following the decision. —— The shooting sparked protests throughout Columbia, South Carolina, and remained a major topic in the community for the last three years as Cyrus’ family continued pushing for accountability in the teen’s death.
