To everyone caring for someone living with Alzheimer’s, this post is for you.

A few days ago, my beautiful mother-in-law Margaret, aged 87, lost her husband of over 65 years. She was just 21 when they married. Now she’s facing life without the man she has spent almost her entire adult life with. And she is living with Alzheimer’s.

Spending time with her has been incredibly precious.
She may not remember what we did yesterday, but the Margaret I know and love is still there.

The cheeky, funny, kind, caring woman who has been such an incredible mother-in-law to me.

With patience, reassurance, affection and making her feel safe and loved, I still see her beautiful personality shine through. Those moments mean everything.

Margaret has never been one for girly pampering, but recently she’s started letting me give her facials, massage oils into her skin and simply look after her.

And she absolutely loves it. Seeing her relax, smile and enjoy that attention brings me so much happiness.

It’s taught me something important.

Just because someone living with Alzheimer’s struggles to care for themselves doesn’t mean they’ve stopped wanting to feel beautiful, comforted, confident and cared for.

Dignity doesn’t disappear with memory loss. Neither does the need for tenderness, affection or human connection.

Margaret has given me so much love and kindness over the years. Now it’s my turn to step up and be there for her.

But I won’t glamourise caring for someone with Alzheimer’s.

It’s hard. Relentless. Frustrating. Emotionally and physically exhausting. There are moments when your patience is tested and you feel completely overwhelmed.

Being of service to someone you love isn’t always easy. But it can be deeply rewarding.

I’m learning that love isn’t always about grand gestures. Sometimes it’s simply showing up, again and again, even on the difficult days.
There are so many of us navigating this journey, with its heartbreaks, challenges and precious little moments of joy.

Even when someone may not remember what you did for them , the comfort, dignity and love they felt in that moment matters.
Memories may fade, but our responsi

What’s the best sleeping position? It’s not what you think.

Most of us treat sleep posture as just personal comfort, but after 50, as spinal discs thin and throat muscles soften, gravity can quietly turn your bed into a hazard for your back, your breathing, and even your brain. Here’s the ranking from worst to best. Stomach sleeping is the worst, because it forces your neck into a 90-degree twist for hours, straining the spine and compressing nerves. Flat on your back is next, since for many people it worsens snoring, sleep apnea, and acid reflux. The winner is side sleeping, and here’s the fascinating part: research suggests sleeping on your side clears the brain’s waste, including the amyloid and tau proteins tied to Alzheimer’s, roughly 25% more effectively than back or stomach sleeping, because your brain does most of its overnight “cleaning” in that position. The left side is also best for easing acid reflux. One tip that changes everything: use a three-pillow setup, one supporting your head in line with your spine, one hugged in your arms to protect your shoulder, and one between your knees to keep your hips aligned. If you have heart failure or a shoulder injury, ask your doctor first. Follow for more sleep science, and share this with a stomach sleeper.
