One fall night in 1979, two best friends went to a small club in their hometown of Washington, DC, to see a band. The show was so extraordinary, the band so singular, that decades—and thousands of shows—later, even at “AARP age,” as one of them now puts it, they still talk about it. They were especially taken with the lead singer, a lanky, glamorous Frankenstein-esque character who, by the show’s conclusion, was up on the bar, crooning merrily as he punched through ceiling tiles while the club owner looked on and laughed. “I’ve never recovered from that show,” Henry Rollins recalls. “I’ve never gotten better. Ian and I talk every Sunday. We’ve been best friends for 52 years. We talk about that time we stood next to each other and watched the Cramps.” The Cramps were the brainchild of singer Lux Interior (Erick Lee Purkhiser) and guitarist Poison Ivy (Kristy Marlana Wallace), who met as art students in Sacramento in the early 1970s, when Ivy caught a ride with Lux and a friend while hitchhiking. They became partners in life and art for the next 37 years, and the only two continuous members of the band until Lux’s death in 2009. Poison Ivy withdrew from the public eye: no interviews, no reunion tours with a stand-in singer, no reissues of Cramps records. Even so, the band’s legend continued to grow, attracting new generations of fans. Earlier this year, Rollins and MacKaye began working with a small group on a secret project: reviving the Cramps’ own Vengeance Records and starting a new business, Cramps Inc. @anna.merlan reports at the link in our bio. 📸: David Corio/Redferns/Getty
For police detective Ivan Dulkay, retribution for the butchering of his compatriots in Bucha, Ukraine, Russia’s worst war atrocity, comes not in the furnace of the battlefield, but through cold investigation and deduction. He wants to find out—and to prove: Who exactly killed more than 300 people in this Kyiv suburb right at the start of Russia’s invasion in 2022? And who ordered the killing spree? Russia has killed tens of thousands of civilians during nearly five years of war, increasingly by long-range strikes, as the front line is largely stuck. What makes Bucha stand out is that most of the killings were carried out at close range with bullets. When the Russians retreated from this leafy Kyiv suburb after one month of occupation, corpses lay in the streets and in mass graves. The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for six senior Russian officials, including President Vladimir Putin, for war crimes including forced deportation of children and targeting of civilian facilities with missiles. Dulkay is working on a different plane. He is hunting the Russian triggermen and their immediate commanders, aiming to work his way up the chain of command. The 31-year-old is still relentlessly pursuing leads after four-and-a-half years. He and his team have created an interactive map showing where each of the victims was killed, interviewed hundreds of witnesses and exhumed bodies in the search for bullets to tie killers to victims. Russia denies any murders took place in Bucha, asserting that the massacre was faked by Ukraine. Dulkay aims for a forensic dismissal of Russia’s claims—and a measure of justice. Dulkay's work is paying off. He said his team has solved 86 of the killings and charged 32 Russian soldiers with murder and torturing civilians. Read more at the link in our bio. 📷: @occhicone98 for @wsjphotos

One normal day of Barclays - Unfortunately Instagram keeps flagging posts as unoriginal so I’ve started writing bigger paragraphs underneath everything to try and stop it happening. Had a few posts get caught by it the other day and had to delete them which is why I’m doing this now. You’ve probably noticed loads of accounts suddenly putting massive AI captions under posts for the same reason. I’d rather just write my own rubbish instead. Cheers for that Instagram. #newcastle #nufc #footballmemes #fyp #trending
