I wrote a thing.

A thing about AYA survivorship.

A thing about how we (hopefully) have decades of life ahead of us…which means we have decades of late effects that we need to have addressed.

A thing about how we look OK on the outside, but inside our bodies are deteriorating faster than our non-cancer survivor friends, colleagues & partners.

A thing about how hard it is for non-oncology providers to keep up with the multitude of late effects that we experience.

A thing that, in my 25th year of being a cancer survivor, I’m finally able to articulate. I couldn’t put these thoughts into words before; but with time and distance, you develop a sort of clarity.

Thank you for a beautiful article and for being so open! Petrified was a great word to use, one that has been uttered before by survivors I’ve met. Thank you for bringing a living breathing person to the value of a good chart review and as a reminder to treat the whole person.

Great article on such an important topic! It feels like an uphill battle to find doctors that will take the time to look under the hood beyond how things appear on the outside. As more and more people live well beyond their diagnosis, the medical community needs to be mindful of these needs.
