Russell Brand has been found guilty of r*pe. After two days of deliberations, the jury at London’s Southwark Crown Court delivered a verdict on all counts, finding the actor and comedian guilty of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault. He was found not guilty on two other counts of r*pe and one of attempted indecent assault. The judge told Brand he will be given a “significant custodial term” and he was remanded in custody. The police say Brand is currently under investigation for two other r*pes, with a file being sent to the Crown Prosecution Service. #TSB #TSBNEWS
For most of Donald Trump’s second term, pundits have assumed that Republicans’ seemingly impregnable Senate map had the edge over Democrats’ lead in national polls. Now, with election day here, betting markets and other quantitative forecasts all make Democrats clear favourites to flip the upper chamber. Our prediction model is a substantial outlier. We see the race for the Senate as almost a pure coin toss, giving Democrats a mere 52% chance of gaining control. The Economist’s forecast does, however, give Democrats a 93% chance of flipping the House, with an average simulated majority of 234 seats to 201 for the Republicans. What do you think the outcome will be for the two chambers? Tap the link in our bio to explore the data in our prediction model.

Deb Haaland made history in 2024 when she became the first Native American woman elected governor of a U.S. state, winning New Mexico’s gubernatorial election and breaking a barrier in American politics. A member of the Laguna Pueblo tribe, Haaland has spent much of her career advocating for Indigenous communities, environmental protection and greater representation in government. Before her historic campaign for governor, Haaland had already achieved several political milestones. In 2018, she became one of the first two Native American women elected to the U.S. Congress, alongside Sharice Davids. She later served as Secretary of the Interior under President Joe Biden, becoming the first Native American to hold a Cabinet secretary position. Her journey from a single mother who once relied on food assistance to one of the most prominent Indigenous political figures in American history has inspired people across the country. Her achievements represent significant progress for Native American representation in leadership and government. 🇺🇸🪶
