Join us tonight at the opening of Jahkarli Romanis exhibition ‘(Dis)connected to Country’
@hillvalegallery from 7:30 pm - 9 pm for
@photofestivalauTonight’s opening collimates 5 months of planning with Jahkarli and Hillvale. Jahkarli’s trust in us has been a privilege and it’s been wonderful to watch this show come to life.
The video shows one of five 7m panels being printed, this is by far the largest work we’ve ever printed. Do not miss this show; it has scale, interaction and a powerful and important message.
(Dis)connected to Country maps the intersections of place, identity, and family, and the way that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have an inextricable connection to the land, as Country and self are intertwined and inseparable. Working with oral histories, the project reflects on the traumatic history of Australia with specific focus on Pitta Pitta Country and the removal of Romanis’ great-grandmother in the early 1900s during the Stolen Generations.
Thank you to
@cansonau for their support with this project. Jahkarli’s artworks were printed on Canson Baryta Photographique II 310gsm.
‘(Dis)connected to Country’ is an inspiring exhibition and we can’t wait for everyone to see it.
