Democrat Xavier Becerra, a former longtime congressman and President Joe Biden’s health secretary, is projected to be the next governor of California, according to the Associated Press.

The victory makes Becerra the first Latino to lead California in more than 150 years. He defeated Republican Steve Hilton, a British-born former Fox News host and political adviser.
