Mississippi Democratic Senate nominee Scott Colom tells CNN's @anniegrayercnn that he is "very confident" about his chances of winning a tight race against Republican Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith. The way we respond to difficult situations often reveals how deeply we trust the Lord. It’s easy to remain patient when everything is going well, but what happens when someone disappoints us, speaks harshly, or disrupts our plans? James 1:19 reminds us to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger. God never intended for our emotions to determine our character. When we allow frustration to control our responses, we often create problems that could have been avoided through patience and prayer.

Before responding to something that upsets you, ask yourself whether your words will honor God or simply satisfy your emotions. Philippians 4:7 reminds us that God’s peace will guard our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. You cannot control how others behave, but with the Holy Spirit’s help, you can control how you respond. Don’t allow a difficult moment to rob you of the peace God desires for your life.
