The connection between inflammation and mental health is well established.

If we want to teach people to get the root cause of any mental health symptom, we have to teach people how to reduce inflammation in the body. Nutrition, movement, and sleep are some of the most important ways to do this.

What we often over look is how deception and repression can trigger inflammatory responses.

When we’re not honest or when we repress our true emotions or needs for extended periods of time, we trigger both a psychological and physiological stress responses linked to inflammatory markers.

Ways to lower inflammation through honesty:

1. When you’re not fine, don’t say you are: Be honest about how you feel, if you’re upset, and how someone impacted you

2. Stop saying yes when you mean no: Every time you override your own limits to keep the peace, your body pays the price.

3. Admit when you’re tired: Rest isn’t something you have to earn, and pushing when you’re exhaustion can be a form of self deception.

4. Tell the truth about what you need: Asking for help, space, or reassurance is better than hoping people guess and resenting them when they don’t.

5. Stop performing happiness: Constantly managing how you’re perceived to others is exhausting and keeps you disconnected from how you actually feel.

6. Be honest with *yourself* about what’s draining you: A relationship, a job, a habit. You can’t change what you won’t name. #selfhealers

I wasn’t having my day yesterday. Hormones, the news (some of it really hopeful btw…), the world… we all have those days. Today is a new day.

Not toxic positivity. Not looking away. Just refusing to let the darkness have everything.

Some days the light finds me. Other days I have to go looking for it, in my family, a walk, a cup of coffee, the people who make me laugh. Either way, I choose it again and again.

🤍 Save this for a day you need it.

fall vibez 🎃♥️

april 29 2022 we met at a concert you almost didnt go to for a band that i just started listening to a month prior.

may 4 2022 you asked me to be your girlfriend and i said yes despite us both knowing we were being crazy.

june 6 2022 i started compiling these vows in a note in my phone and have been editing them periodically ever since because i knew you were the one that early on.

since day one we've been on the same page about more things than anyone ive ever met, we've been finishing each other's sentences since our first date, and now I can recite entire stories that I know you're about to tell just based on the way you take a breath before you speak. as cringey as it is, it's true what they say: when you know you know.

thank you for being the reason i now believe in that notion, for being my home in a person from that point on, and for being the person i needed to fully believe in me when i couldn't believe in myself.

i also want to thank you for the endless coffee and reading dates, for being my forever concert buddy, for always knowing which snacks I'm craving just by the way I look at you, for taking all the photos with me and of me, for introducing me to all the horror movies, for all our spooky adventures together, and for always matching my energy no matter how obnoxious.

thank you for being my eyes when I don't pay attention crossing the street, for always making sure I'm fed, and for taking care of me in general, but especially when my arthritic body decides to act up. I appreciate every meal you cook, every back rub you give me, and every time you fill my water bottle even when I ask you to as soon as you lay down.

im so excited to continue experiencing all the little things in between the big things.

you've taught me to be more patient, to be shamelessly enthusiastic about the simplicities of life, and most importantly, you've taught me what love really is and how it should be. the kind of love in my favorite romance novels and cheesy movies. the kind that is unconditional, ever-growing, and can confidently remain strong while we overcome whatever life throws our way.

You've become not only my rock but my soft landing too.

Happy Halloween!! ✨🎃
