Last Saturday I rode a refined version of a route I've been planning for a while. The idea was to link as many north lakes technical descents as I could in a fun day out on the bike. The resulting ride took me over 15 hours and took in around 3900m of climbing and descending over it's roughly 75km length.
I planned the route as a challenge because I couldn't find any local riding challenges that focus on this kind of riding (big mountain terrain, technical descents) whereas there are lots of cool local challenges for disciplines like bikepacking, cross country, gravel and road.
Therefore I'd like to suggest this as a route to others if anyone likes the look of the challenge. It isn't an exact GPX route, but simply a challenge to link the following 9 descents into one big ride:
Walla Crag to Ashness Bridge, Watendlath Tarn to Rosthwaite Bridge, Warnscale Pass, Scarth Gap, Black Sail Pass, Styhead Tarn to Seathwaite, the Castle Crag descent, Hause Gate on Catbells and Skiddaw Summit to Spooneygreen Lane. Start and Finish in Keswick.
The route is a bit of a big day out but it's a brilliant ride and thoroughly enjoyable. It's definitely not just a suffer-fest endurance challenge and I had a brilliant time riding it.
If nobody else is interested that's totally cool: I just had a great time and would enjoy seeing someone else have a go!
I'll put details up on my website and get a list going for anyone who completes the route.
Let me know if you'd be interested!
