"Tonight, we defeated Goliath." James Talarico declares victory in Texas, comparing his campaign to the biblical story of David and Goliath. He says his campaign went up against the richest man in the world, the most powerful man in the world and the Washington, D.C., establishment. "You were my slingshot. The people of Texas were my slingshot."
Tech billionaire and Republican megadonor Elon Musk is among the biggest losers of election night in the U.S. ㅤ He doled out around $446 million — the most a non-candidate has ever spent on an election, including over $200 million on Texas-related efforts. ㅤ But Musk’s preferred candidates across the country were swamped, losing almost everywhere. ㅤ His plans for a buildout of data centers across Texas are especially in doubt after Democrat Gina Hinojosa won a surprise victory over incumbent Greg Abbott in the state’s gubernatorial race. ㅤ “Data centers in space looking pretty appealing right now,” Musk wrote on X on Wednesday morning, jumping off the results to boost an idea he’s trying to pursue. ㅤ He quickly followed that with a joke about election interference, writing, “Guess my election-interfering space lasers didn’t work this time.” ㅤ Head to the link in our bio to read about what Musk should now brace for as Democrats take control of the U.S. Congress. ㅤ 📷 Kevin Dietsch/Getty Images
