Beneath the Ocean is a young adult fantasy story told through various forms of poetry. J. N. Eagles uses concrete, erasure, and acrostic styles to illustrate how a young shipmate seeks to find her identity as she struggles against the mercy of the waves and her two fellow deckhands. Through a series of transformations, she strives to locate an island rumored to have buried treasure, which would end her search and, bearing riches, allow her to return home. Instead, she discovers much more while at the bottom of the ocean.

What a lovely experience this book is! I was absolutely in love with the gorgeous blend of fantasy and poetry, I don’t think I’ve read anything like it so far and it worked so well to bring a story full of heart! I am looking forward to read more by this author. A story that I’ll probably re-read and cherish whenever I need some beautiful reading experience because this book offers that in huge amount! I can’t recommend it enough for lovers of books that feel like a warm hug 💕
