After the collapse of the Soviet Union change was visible all over Mongolia and especially in Ulan Bator. So many sharp contrasts between old and new ways, traditional and post-modern life. In the morning you could sit in a ger on the steppes drinking Airag or salted brick tea and in the evening go to a laser disco show downtown UB. Here a man in his traditional deel walking by a cinema advertising the movies played that day. So, what’s the choice for tonight, Jesus or Bruce Lee? (Ulan Bator 1994).

He might have thought that Jesus was some strange nomad. In 1914, a missionary in Ulaanbaatar printed the word of God in a newspaper. All Mongols were fascinated & asked for the newspaper. Until he discovered that they used them to make soles for shoes
