6 years agoType 2 runs in my family like water and I get annoyed by assumptions as well. Even the one on your list....that Type 2 can always be controlled by lifestyle. This is not true, especially when there is a strong genetic link. People also assume that being overweight is the only cause....which is completely untrue as well. My dad and grandpa are/were sticks.....skinny as can be. Both developed the Type 2 that runs in the family. I was recently diagnoses with PCOS....which I have had progressive symptoms of since I was 12. Yet, as I was never the "right size", as per the world 's assumptions, I had doctors early on ignore my symptoms and just blame my size. Yeah....um....PCOS greatly affects metabolism. As does other health issues I have since developed , in part, because the doctors ignored the early signs. I get very annoyed with all assumptions and stupid judgements people make about Type 1 and 2. I had a roommate who had Type 1 and taught me all about it.....as well as the prejudice she experienced. And I've seen the prejudice first hand with my family about Type 2, including with physicians. It has often made me wonder why people and physicians think they have the right to be the diabetes police....which only makes life harder, not easier, for those dealing with both kinds.
