Some photos make your brain work a little harder than usual. From Christmas lights glowing beneath heavy snow and a snow leopard blending into a rocky cliff, to clouds that look like ocean waves and birds making a tree appear covered in leaves, perspective can completely change what we think we’re seeing. Other images are just as deceptive, like frost creating mountain-like patterns on a windshield, camel shadows appearing larger than the animals themselves, and Mauritius’ famous “underwater waterfall,” which is actually an optical illusion created by sand and sediment moving off an underwater plateau.
