On karwa chauth, she prayed for her police officer husband's long life. Just three days later, he was killed by a truck while risking his life to do his duty. Dilip Puri was the Station House Officer (SHO) of Khategaon in Madhya Pradesh. Late on Sunday night, Dewas SP Aditya Mishra received an intelligence that a truck loaded with illicit liquor was smuggling its way from Harda toward Gujarat via Indore. Acting on the tip-off, SP Mishra plotted more than five police teams to check the transit routes across the district. As part of the team, Dilip went out to the front lines himself. He was standing on the dark road of the Harda–Nemawar highway to lead the vehicle checks. Late into the night, the suspected truck came barreling toward the checkpoint. Dilip stepped onto the road, raised his flashlight, and clearly signaled the vehicle to pull over. Instead of slowing down, the driver slammed his foot onto the accelerator. The heavy truck rammed directly into Dilip, dragging and running over him on the road. After the brutal impact, the driver drove a short distance ahead, abandoned the truck by the roadside, and fled into the dark bushes. Dilip died on the spot alongside his team before medical help could arrive. Since then, the police have seized the truck and all the liquor inside. They have filed murder charges and sent out search teams across the borders to track down the runaway driver and the people behind the racket. Now, a video of his wife standing and praying beside his body has spread all over the internet. People are breaking down seeing her hands still carrying the red mehendi meant to protect the man she just lost. But a video can make people cry for a day, but once the tears dry up, the fight for justice cannot be forgotten. Tributes are not enough. The man who chose to run him down and the gang that loaded that truck and everyone who was behind this must be caught and given the strictest punishment. True respect for Dilip will only come when the people who killed him are put behind bars.

Listen, I love lifting as much as the next person. But the lifting community has GOT to stop acting like avoiding cardio is some sort of accomplishment. We’ve spent years advocating for the importance of resistance training (rightfully so), but somewhere along the way, some of y’all decided that lifting was the only form of exercise necessary for long-term health. Unfortunately, that’s not how physiology works 🙂 Resistance & aerobic training produce overlapping but distinct adaptations, & BOTH are vital if your goal is to live a long, healthy, physically capable life. Cardiorespiratory fitness measured by VO₂ max is one of the strongest predictors of all-cause mortality. Higher levels of fitness are consistently associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular disease, chronic illness, & death. While lifting absolutely provides some cardiovascular benefits, dedicated aerobic training is needed to improve your heart’s ability to pump blood, increase mitochondrial adaptations, improve oxygen delivery & utilization, & build the endurance needed to sustain activity. Resistance training, meanwhile, is particularly effective for improving muscular strength, preserving muscle mass, supporting bone health, a&nd maintaining physical function as we age. There’s a reason the ACSM Physical Activity Guidelines recommend BOTH aerobic exercise and resistance training! And before someone starts screaming about cArDio KilLiNg tHeIr GaInS, concurrent training research shows that you can absolutely improve cardiovascular fitness while building strength & muscle. You just need to program it appropriately. You don’t need to run marathons, sign up for a HYROX, or suddenly become a triathlete. Walking briskly, hiking, swimming, biking, running, or whatever gets you moving at an appropriate intensity all count! If longevity is genuinely your goal, stop treating cardiovascular fitness like an optional accessory exercise. Lift heavy shit, train your aerobic engine, & give yourself the best chance of being a questionably strong, capable old fart. The potato community is catching strays, but the lifting community needs to hear it 🥔 So, do you even cardio, bro??
