Looking into the loft from the garden, the lower level is a continuous space. The north wall of the kitchen is also the wall of the living room. Elements support food preparation and culture in a way that is not kitchen-ish. One of the strategies for that to work is the scale and transformability of the Island. Another strategy is drawing in and layering of heterogeneous salvaged elements.

The resonance provided by the layering of elements can be seen in Attali’s photograph, from the cove-lit vase display above the wall beyond, to the salvaged glass case embedded in the Island, to the cove lighting above the cabinetry at the wall to the right, and back to the reflection of the garden mirrors on the big window.
