There were some fantastic stories at DP World Tour Q School Second Stage yesterday and the favourite for me was 28 year old Ahmad Baig from Lahore who is trying to become the first golfer from Pakistan to earn DP World Tour membership.

Ahmad shot rounds of 67, 63, 65 and 66 to win at Desert Springs by 5 shots at 27 under par. I spoke to him about it last night:

“I’m feeling really good. It was a great week. I was straight off the tees and I made a lot of putts and made a lot of birdies.”

Ahmad went out tied for the lead into the final round after making an ace on the 14th hole on Saturday, but he wasn’t concerned about defending or playing conservative:

“I was telling my friend Jack in the practice round, I said, ‘Jack, I love this course. It’s perfect for me and I will smash it,’ and Jack said, ‘let’s go!’ And we did.”

This is the first time in Ahmad’s life that he’s ever played in Spain which emphasises what an incredible performance it was. He travelled straight from Second Stage overnight to Infinitum Golf for the Final Stage this week so he can prepare as well as possible for a run at earning his full DP World Tour card and making history.

I wish him well and hope he has another great week. Give him a follow @ahmadbaigg
