Holly Moses - Holy Moses!! (self titled) was released in 1971 on the RCA label. While it was recorded at Electric Lady Studios (built by Hendrix) produced by Mike Esposito (Blues Magoos) and Kim King (Lothar and the Hand People) and consisted of a talented group of guys it failed to chart. But that’s okay because it’s one of my favorite records and there’s a reason why I have 3 different copies... Billy Batson leads with pounding piano and bloozy vocals, accompanied by Teddy Speleos impressive guitar playing, all backed by the three remaining members displaying a fantastic job of musicianship. This album has a lot of things I enjoy and also look for in other records, from great piano playing to face melting guitar, complimenting bass and drums, it even has some oozing organ on “Dig a Deeper Hole” and I’m a sucker for the organ. A bit of blues, a bit of psych, a whole lotta hard rockin’ on this one, and overall while it may be biased, a phenomenal album! Check it out! Discovered and picked up this promo copy at @yungvinyl while the cover is alittle beat up, the disc is an easy EX and for 5 bucks I couldn’t pass it up!
