📍 The Whangie, West Dunbartonshire, Scotland

A morning spent exploring The Whangie (please do help with the pronunciation 🫠), well worth my boggy detour...

Tucked away in the Kilpatrick Hills, just north of Glasgow, this is one of Scotland's more peculiar geological attractions.

If we are shrugging off the devil folklore, the narrow passage between the rocks is thought to have formed when a huge section of rock became unstable and shifted away from the hillside, possibly helped along by glacial activity at the end of the last Ice Age.

The name itself is apparently derived from the Scottish word "whang", meaning a thick slice.

It's a beautifully atmospheric little place, with enormous rock walls and moss-covered crevices.
