The U.S. stock market suffered a massive selloff today, with an estimated $2.5 trillion reportedly wiped from market values in the first hour of trading.

AI and technology stocks were among the hardest hit as investors grew increasingly concerned about the hundreds of billions of dollars being poured into AI infrastructure.

Nvidia, AMD, and other major chip companies fell sharply, dragging down the Nasdaq and S&P 500.

Investors are questioning how quickly the enormous spending on AI data centers and chips will turn into profits. Political uncertainty following the U.S. midterm elections is adding further pressure.

The selloff comes just one day after Wall Street rallied following the election results.
