Petroleum Kitchen Ep.1 American Orange โ›ฝ๏ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐ŸŠ Disclaimer: this is a funny video- nothing more, nothing less. I did not eat this orange- the only one I ate is the organic one at the end. This is a demonstration of the industrial steps used on conventional oranges sold in the United States. This video is for entertainment and educational purposes only- do not replicate these steps at home. This video does not claim that eating oranges will directly harm you. Itโ€™s meant to shed light on how much processing goes into a โ€œfreshโ€ orange before it hits the shelf. This isnโ€™t about any specific brand or grower- itโ€™s a composite of common industry practices- antibiotics, synthetic growth regulators, fungicides and petroleum-based waxes, some of which are even banned in Europe. This video is describing the general process in a way that can be done on a small scale at home, BUT is not mirroring the exact process- itโ€™s optimized to make a watchable video- for example, growers use dedicated trunk injectors, not IV bags, and packinghouses run thousands of boxes an hour through automated linesโ€ฆ things that are not shown in the video. The fungicides are mixed right into the wax btw, so they sit on the peel โ€ผ๏ธ โ€œWithin legal limitsโ€ might mean itโ€™s not gonna drop you on the spot, but doesnโ€™t mean itโ€™s optimal for you in my opinion. At the end of the day, eat what you want- but be informed about what youโ€™re actually eating- and maybe donโ€™t zest your non-organic orange.
