Temple Mountain is the site of a major uranium deposit.☢️ (1) Mining for uranium began in 1914 and the site became one of the major uranium producers during World War II and well into the Cold War (tailings are the conspicuous gray areas on the cliffside). (2) Indigenous peoples used the Uranium-containing carnotite ore for yellow pigments in desert wall murals. (3) The site is located in the San Rafael Swell close to popular outdoor recreation spaces like Canyonlands and Capitol Reef national parks and Goblin Valley State Park.
