On October 26, Danish actor and UNDP Goodwill Ambassador Nikolaj Coster-Waldau @nikolajwilliamcw visited the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant @chornobylnpp as part of a documentary project highlighting the challenges facing the facility and the Exclusion Zone during Russia’s war against Ukraine. Best known for playing Jaime Lannister in Game of Thrones, Coster-Waldau has served as a UNDP Goodwill Ambassador since 2016 and has a longstanding interest in radiation safety and environmental protection. In 2022, he also visited Japan’s Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant. During the visit, the delegation met with ChNPP Director General Serhii Tarakanov and interviewed plant employees. They also toured key facilities, including the main control rooms of power units 3 and 4, the New Safe Confinement (NSC), and the observation deck overlooking the Shelter object. The documentary aims to raise international awareness and secure support for restoring the NSC, protecting the environment, and ensuring radiation safety at the site.
