Michigan. It’s time. It’s up to us to show the country what’s possible. The world is watching. Polls are open 7AM-8PM.
Years ago while flipping through a book, I came across a picture of a painting that I fell instantly in love with. It was called “Cats Being Instructed in the Art of Mouse-Catching” and was by an unknown artist from the Lombard School dated around 1700. I took a picture of the page, and have carried it around on my phone ever since. Every time I scroll across it, it gives me this tiny little moment of pure delight at its absolute absurdist strangeness. This piece is a Mabbish tribute to the Mysterious Unknown Artist, whom I have formally adopted as my great-great-great-great-great godfather. I love imagining what people at the time thought of this piece. Did they love it? Did they dismiss it as silliness? This piece will be a part of the Glimmer show by @beautifulbizarremagazine hosted at @moderneden on November 7th. #mabgraves #beautifulbizarremagazine #popsurrealism #oilpainting #glimmershow Material info: this piece was painted in oils on wood Image description: a host of strange cats gathers around a book that looks like music, but we see that the notes are mice. The cats all sing and play strange instruments in what we can only imagine as a cacophony of noise. An owl turns the pages with a stern look on his face.
