A man downloaded Dexter: Resurrection through BitTorrent and received a copyright infringement notice from Paramount through Starlink just two days later. Sam Guichelaar shared the incident on X, saying he had never received a warning like this before, despite years of downloading torrents. The complaint, dated October 31, came from Vobile, a company that monitors online piracy on behalf of copyright holders. It identified alleged BitTorrent activity linked to his internet connection and requested that Starlink take action. Starlink forwarded the notice, warning that downloading copyrighted material without permission could lead to his internet service being suspended or terminated, as well as possible legal action from Paramount. What caught people's attention was the speed. Within 48 hours of downloading the show, Guichelaar had already received a formal warning from his internet provider, complete with details of the alleged infringement.
🛑🤖 Abdul El-Sayed, the new senator Michigan just elected, wants to put the brakes on the most powerful AI systems being built today. Abdul El-Sayed won Michigan’s open Senate seat on Tuesday after campaigning on a plan to freeze the training and release of the most advanced AI models until real safety rules exist, with independent scientists required to approve before the pause can be lifted. His platform also calls for a permanent ban on superintelligent AI, a legal “kill switch” that lets regulators shut down dangerous systems, and a new Cabinet-level agency with the power to inspect AI labs and block releases. When asked what happens if the US pauses and China keeps going, El-Sayed argued that much of China’s cutting-edge AI work copies American models, comparing it to a water skier who only keeps up because the boat is pulling them. He wants a US-China treaty to pause and ban superintelligence, modeled on the Cold War deal in which Reagan and Gorbachev used inspections to eliminate a class of nuclear missiles.
