Democrat Rep. Chris Pappas defeated Republican John E. Sununu in the race for U.S. Senate, according to the Associated Press.

Pappas’ win keeps the seat in Democratic control as both parties battle for a majority in the Senate. Democrat Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, who has held the seat since 2009, is retiring at the end of her term.

Pappas’ victory also solidifies his record as one of the most successful politicians in recent New Hampshire history. The 46-year-old has held office at various levels for two decades, having lost just one of his past 13 elections, including four consecutive terms representing New Hampshire’s 1st Congressional District.

Pappas’ well-known local family, deep ties to the Democratic establishment and unflashy approach to politics have helped buoy his success — but they’ve also left him vulnerable to attacks from both parties. He attempted to frame Sununu as beholden to President Donald Trump, who had endorsed him.

Edmond Laplante, a Marine Corps veteran and chair of the Constitution Party of New Hampshire, was also on the ballot.

For the love of the sport that has given me so much. For the 9 other World Championships I spent so focused on outcome, medals, rankings, everything EXCEPT for the joy the lost little girl who ended up in a gym found the first time she touched a barbell. For the years taken from me when I couldn’t find joy in anything. For me & nothing else.

Entering the start of Olympic qualifications for the fourth time, but the first time letting joy lead the way. Starting this process and allowing myself to be me, to be free & to enjoy every second. One more time 🫶🏼

See you tomorrow ✨

According to new reporting, CDC career scientists prepared a Health Alert Network advisory warning clinicians about the risks of measles during pregnancy, including serious complications for pregnant patients and babies.

However, the alert reportedly never received approval from the CDC Director’s Office.

That matters.

Health Alert Network notices are designed to get urgent clinical information to doctors, hospitals, and public-health departments quickly, especially during an active outbreak.

Pennsylvania had already issued its own warning about measles in pregnancy, and CDC scientists reportedly tried other routes to get the information published after the alert stalled.

We still do not know who made the decision, why it was held up, or whether HHS leadership was involved, but public-health communication only works when scientists can rapidly warn clinicians about emerging risks.

Measles does not wait for politics or bureaucracy.
