If you want the most insane views in all of Zion National Park, Observation Point is where it’s at. 🤩
Here are a few things you should know, plus tips for this hike:
• There are two trails that lead to Observation Point. The main trail and the East Mesa trail. The main trail was closed a few years ago due to a landslide, so the only way to access Observation Point now is via the East Mesa trail, which is found 3 miles past Zion Ponderosa Ranch in the east entrance of the park.
This trail just happens to be the easier and shorter of the two trails (at 6.2 miles RT and 700 ft of elevation gain) too.
• Go at sunrise or sunset so you can witness this place during golden hour with hardly any other people around. Just make sure to bring a headlamp if you’re going to be hiking in the dark.
• There is limited parking at the East Mesa trailhead, so if you can’t get a parking spot, you can catch a shuttle (cost is $7/person) from Zion Ponderosa Ranch. Just make sure you know what time to get the return shuttle.
• If you really want NO crowds, do this hike in the Winter. Plus, it’s magical with a dusting of snow on the red canyon walls. 😍
