Great Darling Portrait Prize opening at the NPG with Maria Mosquera!!

NATIONAL PORTRAIT GALLERY

This portrait is of Maria Pia Mosquera, the Colombian-born Sydney based award- winning exhibition designer and artist. She is a graduate of graphic design and illustration from the University of Canberra.
The concept for this painting arose at a visit to her studio and was further developed through preliminary painting studies over several sittings.
Maria’s posture is relaxed and self-assured, while her outfit shows her sense of style and design. The national flower of Colombia, the ‘Christmas Orchid’, is used in the background design to reference her cultural heritage.
