What could cause someone to reject good counsel from others? Pride. Proud people like to have their ears tickled. If they don’t hear what they want, they turn away from listening. Having such an inflated view of one’s own worth and opinion is considered stupid, simply because such an attitude does not allow us to accept the process of learning to change and grow.

Also, popularity is fleeting. Even the topmost position is vanity. How much more respected we become when we fight pride and rid ourselves of ego!
