HAPPY 186th BIRTHDAY, HOUSTON! 🥳🥳🤘🤘
The City of Houston was founded back on Aug. 30, 1836 by brothers Augustus C. and John K. Allen, who paid just over $1.40 per acre for 6,642 acres near the headwaters of Buffalo Bayou (UNBELIEVABLE, we know).
Within the first year of being established, Houston elected its first mayor, founded the Harris County Sheriff's Office (which is the largest in Texas), and had a visit from its first steamship.
And H-TOWN has been doing everything BIGGER and BETTER since then 😎
