Democrats have won both the US Senate and House of Representatives, taking control of Congress for the rest of Donald Trump’s presidency.   Projected results have provided the party with a number of things to celebrate - and rival Republicans some reasons to commiserate.   Here’s everything you need to know about some of the big wins and historic firsts.   Tap the link in @BBCNews’s bio to find out everything you need to know from the US midterm elections.    (📷 Getty)   #USMidterms #US #BBCNews

White House Reminds Americans Trump Is Still in Office After Democrats Sweep Midterms Blogged by: PoliGirl The official White House social media account shared a photo of Trump leaning forward over the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office, staring directly into the camera with both hands planted firmly on the desk. Across the image, large white letters read, “PSA: TRUMP IS STILL YOUR PRESIDENT.” The caption was just as direct: “Thank you for your attention to this matter.” President Trump leaning over a desk in the Oval Office with American flags in the background; bold caption reads ‘PSA: TRUMP IS STILL YOUR PRESIDENT.’ The post arrived after a devastating election night for Republicans, with Democrats winning control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate. The results marked a major shift in Washington and threatened to complicate Trump’s agenda during the remaining two years of his term. While the White House did not explicitly mention the election results in its post, the timing was impossible to overlook. Democrats had just secured significant victories in races across the country, including several states and districts that Republicans previously controlled. The November 3 elections saw Democrats make gains in traditional Republican territory, with victories in states including Texas, Iowa, Kansas, and South Carolina. The party also flipped numerous House districts, securing enough seats to take back the chamber. Voters headed to the polls amid concerns about rising living costs, the war in Iran, and government accountability. Those issues became central to the midterm campaigns as Democrats sought to challenge Republican control of Washington. The results also represented a setback for Trump, who had spent time campaigning for Republican candidates and encouraging voters to support his political agenda. However, Trump pushed back against suggestions that the election results represented a personal rejection of his leadership. He argued that Republicans would have performed better if his name had appeared on the ballot.
Long before the building became a public library, it was home to one of Chicago’s most unusual and talked about drinking spots. Known as the Midget Club, the tavern attracted plenty of attention and became a popular destination for people looking for something different from the city’s traditional nightlife. Now, rare footage offers a fascinating glimpse inside the bar and the atmosphere that once made it so memorable. The footage comes from I Married a Munchkin, a film by Chicago filmmaker Tom Palazzolo. His work documented everyday life and some of the more unusual corners of the city, preserving scenes that might otherwise have disappeared from public memory. This particular footage gives viewers a chance to see the Midget Club as it actually looked while it was still operating. The tavern eventually closed after the city acquired the property and the building was cleared to make way for a public library. The decision became controversial among people who believed the establishment had a place in the neighbourhood and questioned whether another location could have been used for the library instead. Today, the footage serves as a reminder of how quickly familiar places can disappear as cities change and redevelop. Whether the library was worth the loss of the tavern is still an interesting question, especially for those who remember the Midget Club. Would you have saved the bar or supported the library?
