march 25th, 2022 was the day of my first ever knee surgery in hopes to fix the issue i’ve been battling for what seemed like my whole life. fast forward to after the surgery, i was in rehab for a little over 6 months busting my ass off and being told that my recovery was going incredible. however, two months ago was my first time stepping on the field again since february 2022. on october 9th, 2022 the same knee i had surgery on slid out of place and essentially caused swelling for the next few days. out of concern for my own body, i decided to go in and see my surgeon. he said it could be one of two things, cartilage damage or the surgery failed. fast forward again, i get an MRI and the results showed that the anchor attached to my femur holding the graft tendon in place failed, causing the ligament to deattach. keep in mind, this surgery had around a 5% failure rate. long story short, to make my life easier as i get older, i made the hard decision of getting a second procedure on november 21st, 2022. as of right now, i do not plan on coming back to my soccer career after recovering only because of the mental and physical strain of returning to play soccer has already caused me. i’ve been playing in a brace since 2017 and i definitely don’t want to play scared anymore. i now have a 8 inch incision on my knee that reminds me of the battles i’ve been through and my strength as a person. i’m so beyond thankful for the support and love i have received during these times. last, i am forever grateful for the friendships, advice, and life lessons that will always hold a place in my heart. walking away from the sport that has occupied my life with highs, lows, tears, blood, and sweat for the past 12 years is the biggest heartbreak i’ve had to endure. thank you to all of my previous and current coaches who always had faith in me as a player even when i wasn’t always physically able to perform at my best. most importantly thank you to my amazing parents who have done nothing but succeed at giving me the tools i needed to pursue my passion for this sport. i’m walking away knowing i gave it my all and for now it’s time to heal.
