#tbt Morocco 🇲🇦. This was technically our honeymoon trip and our last international trip before becoming parents. We never got around to posting about it, because that’s just how we roll these days - everything is shared about a year late. Maybe one day I’ll share some of the great photos. For now, I’ll reminisce with this.
Itinerary:
Day 1 - arrive in Casablanca, drive to Rabat
Day 2 - walk around Rabat in morning, Mausoleum of King Mohammed V, drive to Chefchaoen
Day 3 - walk Chefchaoen, the blue city (pictured), hike to overlook for sunset (pictured), keep going back for crepes for dinner (pictured)
Day 4 - leave Chefchaoen early, drive to Fes, walk Fes old Medina without getting lost. Visit leather tannery (pictured). Overlook the city at sunset (pictured). Have leather jacket custom made to specs and delivered by dinner.
Day 5 - drive all the way south to Merzouga. Long varied and beautiful drive through some of the most desolate desert landscape. Drop car in Merzouga. Camel ride into the Sahara before dark (pictured). Glamping in tents
Day 6 - Sahara desert touring via camelback. Visit oasis, Berber homes, enjoy camp/dinner/music/dancing with Moroccan tourists celebrating national holiday and day off.
Day 7 - leave Sahara early in morning via car due to rare excess rain and flooding in the desert, making the sand dangerous. Pick up car in Merzouga. Drive to Ait Ben Haddou via Ouarzazate through flooded desert towns, in one of the most intense and dangerous drives of my life.
Day 8 - Tour Ait Ben Haddou, town and site of many movies such as Gladiator and Game of Thrones. Drive to Marrakesh through the Tizi n’Tichka mountain pass in the Atlas Mountains (not for the faint of heart). Dinner in old medina of Marrakesh
Day 9 - walk old medina of Marrakesh. Visit House of Photography in Marrakesh. Dinner in medina.
Day 10 - leave Marrakesh midday. Drive to Casablanca. Tour famous and beautiful Hassan II Mosque on the Atlantic Ocean (pictured). Dinner at Airbnb with European travelers and hosts.
Day 11 - fly out from Casablanca
