10 Fun Questions we get all the time!
1. We started AH as an Etsy business in 2011
2. Bill and I made the first cutting boards for our wedding here in Brooklyn
3. I lost my job in architecture and found Etsy to be a great creative outlet… I had been learning about digital processes, I had run a fabrication company previously. I was a new mom and at 36 it seemed impossible to head back to an office so AH was born!
4. The state shaped cutting boards were our first products!!
5. Balancing life and work is something we work through daily, even after 12 years of being in business. We've always been strong about deadlines and having the product made properly...
6. We have 2 kids Sadie and Henry and own a 112 year old limestone in Brooklyn, NY. It is becoming clearer that the reward of putting family first outweighs growth and money - I've never run this business without small children, so I have always split my time. Having a business is a lot like having a family in a way, it's a series of repetitive tasks done everyday - It takes years to see the full results manifest.
7. My favorite products are our candle holders!!
8. After 12 years we’ve assessed everything and realized what we’ve learned… you learn that there are times when you are in love with your business and times when you aren't sure what the hell is going on. You want to rely on selling online, then you get business opportunities that are completely offline. It’s a hard balance.
9. Corporate Gifting is one of our favorite things we’ve been so fortunate to do, taking up a lot of our behind the scenes time. It feels like a special part of our business in creating gifts and bundles especially for other employees!
10. We moved at the end of 2022, still here in the Brooklyn Navy Yard but to a bigger space and we are excited to finally be settling in to share more behind the scenes with you!
