❤️ We gaan haar intens missen. ❤️
Anthropic and OpenAI have lately taken up an old tradition in corporate America: bemoaning the Chinese copycat. That is because China remains hot on America’s heels in the race to AI superintelligence, largely due to distillation—a process by which inferior models learn to imitate the output of cleverer ones. Yet the two firms are hardly suffering from the consequences. They have raised hundreds of billions of dollars and dominate the market, making it hard to argue that copying hurts investment at the frontier. Congress should resist the firms’ calls to ban distillation. To understand why America, and consumers, actually benefit from it, click the link in our bio. Illustration: @benzohickey
This is a photo of a Polish soldier of the Polish Army in France, taken on January 1, 1940. He stands at attention wearing a French Army greatcoat and leather ammunition pouches, with the Polish eagle on his beret. Behind him, fellow soldiers line up with bayonets fixed, far from their occupied homeland. Just months earlier, in September 1939, Poland had been invaded by Germany and the Soviet Union and fell within weeks. Rather than surrender, tens of thousands of Polish soldiers escaped through neighboring countries and regrouped in France under General Władysław Sikorski. Joined by Polish emigrants living in France, the army grew to around 80,000 troops by the spring of 1940. Polish units fought in the Battle of France and at Narvik in Norway. When France fell in June 1940, many of them were evacuated to Britain, where they continued fighting for the rest of the war.
