5 years back , I stuck a very small leaf cutting into a 8” pot ..Little did I know , it would fill my heart with so much joy & feeling of accomplishment ( a bit too much but that’s exactly how I feel ! )..it has started budding. One of the best examples of leaf propagation of plants - #brahmakamala .

There are many articles about how this plant is #epiphyllumoxypetalum & that #saussureaobvallata is the ‘Actual’ Brahma Kamal.

But here in Bengaluru … this flower is very popularly known as ‘Brahma Kamala’ ever since I remember as a child..I was in class 2…my neighbour had this huge plant & every Monsoon, when it was laden with buds; we all ( entire neighbourhood )would assemble at their compound at night to watch this beauty bloom….a little late night banter till it bloomed..No insta.. No Timelapse..Life was so simple..I wanted to pluck but my mom would explain about how it bloomed only in the night ..short-lived beauty.. lifeless by morning & so I shouldn’t touch !

Etched in my mind…This will always remain ‘Brahma Kamala’ for me ( & I m sure for most Bangaloreans ! )

If you are a beginner.. you should try to just stick a leaf or a leaf cutting into the soil & watch it grow into a plant like magic!

Can’t wait for these to bloom for the first time in my little balcony 🤍
