I just love this picture of Amy Winehouse, who died 12 years ago today. It was taken when she was still all but a child, entering her teen years, her head and heart filled with the great music she learned from and honored via the songs she wrote and performed later with such talent, grace, and honesty.
Our impulse—mine, anyway—is to mourn the loss of such a heartbreakingly vulnerable person, who at some point became no one’s priority, until she was gone. But none of us know what the next moment has in store for us; and few of us, I dare say, have used our days and nights to create as much beauty in the world as this young woman did, in not much time at all. It’s why this picture never fails to make me smile. 🌹
