After meeting Patty Ortiz just once, I knew I wanted to tell her story.

Becoming a NASA engineer isn’t easy. It’s rocket science, after all. 🚀 But Patty faced the added challenge of coming from a low-income household, without a blueprint or a role model to show her the way.

She drew strength from her mother, who came here from El Salvador to build a better life without knowing anyone or speaking the language. Her mother’s courage helped Patty keep pursuing her own dream.

Now, through Kids Need Space, she’s opening doors for children who dream of working in space exploration, becoming the representation she didn’t have growing up.

Patty, thank you for blazing a trail and helping kids see that they, too, can reach for the stars, no matter where they come from. ✨

And a special thank-you to Enrique Roman for collaborating with me to edit and bring this story to life. You’re a superstar!
