On Wednesday, August 16, 2023, the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA), along with community partners and members, joyously commemorated the grand opening of a newly revitalized playground situated in the heart of Nickerson Gardens, the largest public housing development in Los Angeles, California.
The event featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony that was then followed by surprise performances by the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Jay Rock, who grew up in Nickerson Gardens.
During the event, Tyrone Nance, Lead Community Outreach Specialist for Community Engagement, spoke with Doug Guthrie, HACLA’s President and CEO, about strategies for fostering community trust and strengthening relationships with community partners and members.

Doug is spot on! Building community trust requires investing in time and resources. It's an honor to know our playground equipment will help foster these relationships!
