Let’s bring this back to 2003. Seems like a good time to remind everyone keeping track at home that this isn’t new, this didn’t just start out of thin air…to understand why this is happening and potentially how to find a lasting solution, we have to go back and understand the context and the conditions that lead to what we’re seeing unfolding before our very eyes.

Throwback to one of the most important projects I’ve ever done. 20 years ago we reached out to Palestinian students to tell their stories. We asked them to draw pictures or write letters describing their life. After going through 50 of them, it’s clear that a lot the same experiences exist today.
This is not a post looking for sympathy for Palestinians. At this point we’re looking for humanity, not sympathy, we don’t need sympathy. Palestinians, especially those in Gaza have more strength and faith than all of us. But we need the people to keep going. It’ll be solved by the people but first you need to understand the people. Just like any people, Palestinians want to live, work, play and learn in peace.
What environment did you grow up in? What kind of pictures were you drawing as a 4th grader or 7th grader? What kind of writing were you doing as a 9th grader?
This is their reality, but through all this these kids (and many Palestinians everywhere) have held their heads high and found a way to get educated and grow against the odds and use their knowledge or influence to keep reinvesting into the next generations of kids coming through. That’s something to be proud of #palestine #palestinian #throwback

Wow Akram. It’s shocking to me how the stories haven’t changed after so many years. More people need to see this
