Hear Elvis sing “See See Rider” and “That’s All Right” in these rare private home recordings from 53 years ago. No crowd… No stage… No spotlight… Just Elvis. PICTURE IT: Early November 1973 (believed to be Nov. 3rd or 4th) • 1317 Favell Drive, Memphis. Elvis had just gotten out of the hospital days earlier, following a few rough months: 🗓️ Sep. 3: He fires the Colonel after a wild and unpredictable closing show in Vegas (spoiler alert: they reconciled, much to our dismay). 🗓️ Oct. 9: His divorce becomes final. 🗓️ Oct. 15: He enters the hospital, where he remains until Thursday, November 1, with girlfriend Linda Thompson by his side. That weekend, Elvis and Linda visit her brother Sam. Also there are Sam’s wife, Linda’s parents, and Elvis’ stepbrother Ricky. Before long, Elvis picks up Sam’s old guitar and starts singing a number of songs, including two of his famous show openers: “See See Rider” and “That’s All Right.” How grateful are we that they hit record!? Listen closely, and you can almost sense Elvis’ mood: Quiet. Reflective. Weary. Vulnerable. This isn’t the superstar the world knows. It’s just Elvis. The man and his guitar.
