High Moon Records

#OnThisDay we celebrate the birthday of Marc Bolan, the iconic frontman of @t.rexbolanofficial and a pivotal figure in rock music history. Born on September 30, 1947, Bolan’s innovative sound and flamboyant style helped define the glam rock era of the 1970s.

Marc Bolan began performing in 1967 when he formed an acoustic psychedelic folk outfit call Tyrannosaurus Rex. However the band did not see widespread success in England until Bolan began making electric rock music and shortening the band name to T. Rex. Their 1971 record Electric Warrior ushered in the glam era, with the massive hit “Bang A Gong (Get It On)”.

Bolan’s influence extends far beyond his tragically short life, with his glam rock influencing punk, new wave, and later indie rock, while his early acoustic work was an iflunece for the freak-folk musicians in the 2000s. His legacy continues to inspire musicians and fans alike, bridging generations with his timeless sound.

At High Moon Records, we honor artists who’ve left an indelible mark on music history. His innovative spirit and genre-defying approach resonate deeply with our mission to preserve and celebrate influential music across various eras and styles.
