A look into the visual storytelling of ‘Set Apart’ directed by
@onedayfilmmaker &
@ryantorrensmedia!
Working on this film with Tom & Ryan was an absolute treat, and it was truly such a collaborative experience. Since this is my first time working with two directors, getting an understanding on both of their individual visions was an exciting process. I wanted to make sure that every shot we got on the day fulfilled both of their standards, and I am thrilled with the outcome.
Creating the visual designs of this film was certainly a challenge. Not only were we filming in just the one location, but we were focused on finding value in the ‘static shot’. For the style of this film, we wanted to limit camera movements unless it was absolutely necessary for a plot point or character decision. Inspired by the cinematography in ‘Knock at the Cabin’, we played with the idea of our protagonist coming in and out of focus within the same static shot. This method really helped add a dynamic that you would get with movement, and it was allowed for some fun opportunities in composition.
I am absolutely so excited for everyone to see this project. I have nothing but fond memories of production weekend, and it was honestly so great seeing that lakeside view every morning (the weather throughout was surely a paid actor).
