El Salvador’s forces went into Haiti to bring four of their own home, and on Tuesday night the gangs learned what that means. Salvadoran attack helicopters repelled a gang assault on Chadian soldiers serving with the United Nations-backed Gang Suppression Force in Croix-des-Bouquets, according to President Nayib Bukele. The Chadian troops were under attack when the helicopters arrived and drove the attackers off. It was the first helicopter action of a mission that began when four Salvadoran aviation technicians were ambushed and taken on October 18 in Santo, about twelve kilometers from Port-au-Prince. The deployment is not small. More than 2,000 Salvadoran soldiers arrived in Haiti in just over a week, backed by five MD 500E helicopters and two Black Hawks, and on November 2 they launched their first major ground offensive in the Plaine du Cul-de-Sac against the Chèn Méchan and 400 Mawozo gangs. The four technicians have not been found, and a gang leader now claims they are dead. Bukele’s government says the mission is coordinated with Haiti’s prime minister and is not an invasion. It is a rescue operation with an army behind it. Haiti’s gangs spent years believing nobody would come for them. They taxed roads, seized neighborhoods, and took hostages because the state that should have stopped them had collapsed. Then a country that had already finished its own gangs sent two thousand soldiers and air support to a neighborhood twelve kilometers from the capital. The gangs thought they could take Salvadorans and walk away. They are learning, in the dark over Croix-des-Bouquets, that some countries keep their promises to their own people.

🚨 BREAKING: Introducing X-70 Fractal, @nasa’s newest experimental aircraft! This crewed, modular aircraft will allow the agency to rapidly swap out internal & external payloads to help keep pushing the frontiers of aviation technology! X-70 Fractal is a high-performance platform to test advanced flight-control, maneuverability, and other cutting-edge technologies in real flight. “We expect her first flight under the NASA banner within the next two years, and X-70 is just one part of this new beginning for aeronautics. This is why people come to NASA: to build, to learn, and most importantly, to fly.” - @nasaadmin The X-70 Fractal has a takeoff weight of 10,000 pounds and is designed to cruise at Mach .75, reach altitudes of up to 45,000 feet, and provide an operational range exceeding about 1,726 miles (1,500 nautical miles). These capabilities will enable NASA to conduct demanding flight research across a broad range of operating conditions.
