2 years agoI think we can all guess the “controversy” it is causing “within the district”. 🙄 if only they used their voices for the real problems
2 years agoIs every book in the classroom part of a curriculum? No. Is the book age appropriate? Is the topic happening in the news? Will it teach our children an awareness they will need? Does it teach critical thinking skills? Cultural awareness? Social injustice? Teach co-existence, sharing and celebrating togetherness? Does it give the situation a voice for discussion for feelings, anxiety or confusion? Will our children be exposed to the topic while watching the news or social media? Our kids need to learn all these skills. Especially now with AI and algorithms that misleading and manipulative. Knowledge is power.
2 years agoI get the value of the topic, but it may actually harm as it’s trying to help. The kids the book may be trying to represent can end up traumatized and stigmatized if the book is not age-appropriate and/or if the subject isn’t handled thoughtfully by a skilled facilitator.
2 years agoThey think reading a book to kids is going to change things, I don’t know about everyone else but I taught that to my child in our home and my daughter is doing it with her son now it all starts at home and parenting the right way
2 years agoGod forbid we allow schools to teach about *gasp* racial equality. Is this a joke? What century is this?
